Vent X®

Vent-X is a coated waterproof breathable fabric. It has an industrial strength, oxford weave, with an original nylon 66 face, and a 4-pass hydrophilic coating on the back. A 4-pass coating means 4 separate coatings are built up on the back of the fabric before they are all heat cured together. Defined as a breathable monolithic coating by the industry, water vapour on the inside surface of the coating is transported to the outside surface of the fabric via a series of molecular chains.

In terms of waterproofness the coating can withstand a 20,000mm waterhead pressure. This figure is retained even after continuous washing and wear.

We have been using this fabric for over 35 years and the reasons for doing so are still relevant today. It has the perfect durability versus lightness ratio for the challenges New Zealand’s rugged outdoor environment has on clothing. We did once offer lighter fabric overtrou but found these damaged too quickly resulting in little waterproof protection. Light weight jackets can suffer from this problem as well.

The outer surface of the fabric is treated with the best fluoropolymer water repellent specification we can obtain. This treatment prevents surface wetting which is critical for maximum breathability.

Vent-X is ideal for anything from sub-alpine bush bashing, bum sliding down firm snow and everyday work wear.
