We spend a lot of time talking about jackets, trousers and technical layers — the parts of your system you can see. But there’s another layer that’s just as important and often overlooked: what you wear next to your skin.
Your layering system is only as effective as its first layer. Add a cotton bra or underpants into the mix and things can go wrong quickly. Cotton absorbs moisture and holds it against your body, which can make you cold, uncomfortable, and in some situations, unsafe.
Your base-most layer – your underwear, needs to wick moisture and dry fast, just like every other technical layer. It’s the foundation of a warm, comfortable and reliable clothing system.
