Helium II Men's-Hel Rainforest-S-0

Helium II Men’s

Constructed from specialised High Loft fleece, the Helium jacket is 20% warmer and 40% more compressible than a standard Polartec®200 Fleece. The ‘soft fur’ construction has a special double anchor so the body hugging fibres will not pill and will not shed. Sides, cuffs and front panel lining use Technopile® microfleece. This is an functional warmth layer ideal for travel and outdoor adventures where warmth, weight and storage are critical.

Clearly the best cold weather flece I have ever owned, Extremely warm when layered and the most comfortable and soft outer when worn back at base at the end of the day. Perfect fit and wish I had several more.

I’m in love with this fleece. I wear it at camp, in huts, during lunch breaks on chilly days, and around home. Every time I put it on I feel like I’m getting a gentle, warm hug. I did not know fleece could be so warm. The high neck and long torso length also mean no cold spots. Amazingly light for how warm it is. And everyone wants to touch it!

This is my new favourite fleece for many reasons. It’s really warm and a great travel companion. I’m impressed by how light it is given its warmth and its ability to pack down. There is also the added benefit of everyone wanting to give it a rub because it is so snuggly.

KINDA LIKE WEAR A WARM CLOUD
This jacket kind of reminded me of the Mountain Hardware Monkeyman jacket…only better. Lighter, warmer and far more compressible. Sitting inside a tent waiting for the blizzard to blow through, I was rocking this with only a baselayer, despite being round -10. It took me home, back to my warm spot in front of the fire. Excellent bit of kit.

    LG – June 6, 2014

The helium has become my standard tramping fleece. On a recent ascent of Mount Brewster I found that when combined with a thermal and a hardshell it was more than enough to keep me warm despite the temprature with windchill sailing pretty close to 0. The only disadvantage of the helium is that if you have the misfortune of being thrown in a river it is almost impossible to ring out all the water that the helium absorbs; it acted just like a towel..

    Chris Todd – May 28, 2014

I GOT REALLY ATTACHED TO THIS JACKET – I LOVE IT.
Once we got above 4000 metres in NW Pakistan the Helium stayed on day and night: It was cosy, comfy and practical. The side cleats trapped warm air when the temperature plummeted and the zipper comes right up under your chin. The inside breast pocket was in constant use for my notebook, glasses & knick-knacks; the 2 outside pockets for snacks, beanie etc. I got really attached to this jacket – a bit like a kid with teddy bear.

    * Chris used the Helium on the New Zealand Hindu Kush Expedition (Pakistan) August 2014: Langua-tai-Barfi 7017m

Warm machine wash using mild detergent. Make sure detergent fully dissolved in the water before adding clothes.Line dry inside out. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners. Do not dry clean or iron. May be tumble dried, cool setting only, for a very short time. For best results wash separately as fleece will pick up lint from materials that shed such as your lovely fluffy towels. If this does happen, lint can be removed using the sticky side of packing tape or a lint roller. Fabric softeners reduce the moisture transfer and breathability properties of the fleece by coating the fibres with a lubricant.

Our Story

Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.

Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.
