This jacket looks even better in the flesh than the pics online. Well done team on another great product.

The perfect jacket. It fits well and the longer length makes it versatile. But it also has pockets that fit your phone/wallet, zips that work, a hood that works and is TOTALLY waterproof. It looks great but that hasn’t been achieved at the cost of functionality.

    Pippa McLay – April 22, 2022

I bought this fabulous jacket some months ago but with the long hot dry summer have not had too much opportunity to put it through it’s paces! I bought it as a lighter weight and shorter alternative to the ESS’s popular and highly rated “Hydrophobic”. I put a high premium on my gear being light weight/compact but functional and this jacket excels. I have worn it over a light weight top when being wind blasted on exposed tops such as Urchin Peak, Kawaka J and above Lower Tama Lake, and kept dry and warm as it seals around the neck/hood and cuffs. I tend to get hot when tramping but have not had any problems with condensation on the inside. Coupled with good quality over trousers, I was the only tramper still dry and warm on returning to base camp over the Kawaka range in wind and driving rain. I have a shortish body so would find the Hydrophobic too long. I bought it in a size 10 (usually wear size 10 or 12) and have found it plenty roomy enough for layering. I was initially uncertain about buying this garment as there were no reviews, but am very glad I went for it. It’s pricey but will be money well spent in the long run and NZ made to boot 🙂

Care

Entrant/Gelanots

  • Warm hand wash for best garment life.
  • Use pure soap or mild detergent.
  • We recommend using Persil Liquid or Sunlight Bar Soap. Both are pH neutral.
  • Do not use bleach.
  • Rinse well to remove all residues.
  • Do not wring.
  • Drip dry in the shade to minimise UV exposure.
  • Do not tumble dry.
  • A cool iron may be used to rejuvenate the exterior DWR* coating. Do not dry clean.

Keeping waterproof breathable garments clean will increase their lifespan. During normal wear, dirt, salts, and oils from contact with the skin will accumulate on the inside surface. This will show as a dark stain on the mesh, especially around the neck and hood. If leftover an extended period of time, this may contaminate the laminate or coating and cause irreversible damage to the jacket. To prevent this happening the garment should be washed at least once a year and more often if worn regularly. Hanging up garments in dry well-ventilated areas will prevent mildew building up on the fabric’s underside. Avoid all contact with solvents and chemicals, accidental contact should be washed off as soon as possible.

Our Story

Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.

Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.
