The ultralight, wind resistant, thermally efficient Alpha Hoodie heralds a new era for mid-layer garments. It uses a combination of two technical fabrics, a Japanese woven, air permeable/wind resistant, nylon outer and a USA knitted Polartec® Alpha®, polyester liner.

The Alpha® Fabric was created for the special armed forces wanting breathability and reliable warmth during their start-stop physical activities in a wide variety of temperature extremes. Polartec® Alpha® attaches resilient loft fibres to a durable mesh core to create a heat capturing string singlet like fabric.

For the past 3 decades standard double sided brushed polar fleece fabric has been the performance mainstay for a mid-layer. Renowned for its breathability, warmth and fast drying performance the Alpha Hoodie surpasses these properties improving lightness, wind resistance, and compressibility in storage.

Importantly the Alpha Hoodie when worn under a waterproof/breathable outer layer will not hinder its breathability. The wearer remains comfortable and dry with no moisture build in the underlying base and mid-layers no matter the wearers physical activity.

The versatility of the Alpha Hoodie is unmatched, it can be used as a mid-layer garment under a waterproof/breathable outer garment or, in dry conditions, as an all-in-one mid/outer layer.

I’m a natural fibre person. Never really bonded with fleece. But I’m gradually allowing the odd synthetic into my kit. So on Saturday at Earth Sea Sky’s Wellington pop up I slipped on a sky blue Alpha windproof jacket. I knew immediately that it was going to be a long time friend. Not only because ESS garments LAST but also because its so light, cosy and warm. Whole heartily recommend.

Versatile and mint performance. This is the most versatile jacket. It’s warm, breathes (and I’m a heavy sweater), and provides meaningful wind protection. I can use it on the move, when I stop and at camp/in a hut.
Performance wise It’s close to a down jacket. I’ve used it just with a thermal layer or t-shirt underneath, and added a light mid-layer underneath in colder conditions. It works brilliantly with a shell over the top or as an outer layer.
I can’t speak highly enough about this jacket. This truly works as either insulation or a mid-layer.
