Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.
Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.

Comfortable, light, seems like it should last a very long time. Recommend doing up the Velcro before throwing it in the washing machine because the Velcro is very sticky and will snag your other clothes.
The only issue I have with this skirt is how it can blow open when windy (or at least feel like it’s going to show more than I intent to! Maybe more my sensitivity than reality). I solved this by sewing on some thin elastic and a small metal press stud – I leave it undone unless it is breezy. A suggestion to ESS for future iterations.

Delighted with this skirt. The fabric is lightweight & easy to pack but also durable. It looks nice enough to wear around town, even though I bought it for tramping. The adjustable waist is fantastic – I wish all skirts had that! And the icing on the cake is knowing I’ve bought a high quality, made-in-NZ product. Brilliant service too – less than 24 hours from ordering online to delivery in Hamilton. Amazing! I couldn’t be happier with the product and the service. Well done ESS.

I have worn Prolite Wrap skirts for hiking since 2012. All my trekking is off-track in the rugged Kimberley region of Western Australia. The skirt allows me incredible freedom of movement to scale cliffs and swim across rivers, while keeping me cool in temperatures that range from 30 – 45 degrees. Unlike most man-made materials, Prolite doesn’t break down prematurely in this fierce heat. It’s incredibly robust and doesn’t tear when I snag my skirt on the vegetation or bum-slide down a scree slope. It’s the most durable piece of outdoor clothing I own. Thank you for creating something that lasts so well and which is perfectly suited to my needs.

JUST INCREDIBLE!!!
After quite a few months of very regular wear walking, cycling and around the house, this skirt still looks new. I love how it adjusts with my body or under layers. It gives you all the freedom to move you want or need and looks just gorgeous. The fabric has a beautiful slight stretch and shimmer and it even has a pocket with one open and one sip compartment. I love it and my husband loves it on me.
