Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.
Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.

Dave Kelly –
I got one of these recently and it’s excellent, the best merino top I’ve ever had. I have worn it almost constantly since. I got a snug fit, and it’s incredibly warm for the weight, and very comfortable. The full length zip gives more temperature-control options, and (unlike some other merino hoodies I have) the zip goes high enough to use it to keep your neck warm even with the hood down. Highly recommended.

One of my very favourite pieces of clothing. It’s as smart in the city as it is sensible in the outdoors, light and cozy, and easy to care for. It’s a “go to” top for me – I wear it all the time.

SMART DRESSING.
Most of my reviews talk about he multi-use facet of ESS garments and the slingshot does this as well as any. Incredibly warm for its weight, the standard solid ESS construction and the benefits of merino. I’ve worn this top from remote expedition in Northern British Columbia through to outings in high-end restaurants in Seattle. The slingshot covers it all.
