This lightweight Polartec® base layer fabric is designed to provide maximum thermal efficiency. The fleece grids have a tufted texture next to the skin, which creates a slow-moving air zone around your body, slowing the loss of heat and keeping you warm in cold conditions. In addition, the fabric has moisture-wicking properties that help to keep you dry and comfortable during intense activities. Whether you’re skiing, hiking, or just enjoying a brisk walk on a chilly day, this base layer fabric is the perfect choice for staying warm and comfortable

Care
Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.
Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.

As soon as you put this on it feels warm and cozy. Worth adding to your layering kit.

I wore one of these every day for 19 days while hiking the NW and S circuits in Rakiura National Park. The moisture management and next to skin comfort is just incredible, far better than the merino tops I would have worn in the past. Before when I stopped for breaks I’d be rushing to get another layer on, and would notice my back was particularly soaked in sweat. This top seems to wick away my sweat fast enough that even when I am doing intense stop-start activity like climbing a boggy, exposed hill on the southern circuit, I remained comfortable despite the trying conditions. It was around 10ºC every day, with slight breezes, and I feel that was a perfect temperature for this top. Odour was not too bad at the end despite only giving it one quick wash outside a hut, certainly far better than the polypros I used as my hut clothes. I don’t know if washing inside out would help with pilling, but mine is certainly doing that a bit after a few months of wear/washing. Still looks and feels great, and is far, far more durable than wool. No nicks or holes from pack clips/straps! I think I may buy every colour, I love mine so much. Perfect for tramping around NZ in autumn/winter/spring.
