Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.
Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.

Great strong lightweight durable trousers. I expect them to have regular use from them for many years, including tramping, cycling and travel. I have worn them for alpine tramping (Tongariro Crossing in winter) where they were perfect. They are made for very tall people so I had to get about 8cm shortened from my pair. I am 176cm tall so I expect the medium size would fit someone about 185-190cm tall.

These pants are phenomenal. I’ve worn them regularly for the past year mostly for rock climbing and camping and they’ve stood up very well to the abuse. No sign of ripping or developing holes yet – very abrasion resistant. The gusset is great for mobility. perfect level of protection from the elements (except rain) and breathability. I plan on buying another pair.

Best trousers I’ve every owned! Comfortable, light, tough, good-looking, heaven for travel. I have just bought my second pair of Fast Track Longs (in case ESS stop making this model). My first pair are still going strong and are only 16 years young. I suspected a bit of fading – I had been wearing them as sun protection when snorkelling on a recent holiday and surely salt water plus equatorial sun on top of life under NZ’s UV conditions would cause damage. Well, just a slight bit of fading. Fabric just as strong as ever. Impressive.
