Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.
Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.

Josh Brinkmann –
I was fortunate enough to have this with me on our charity drive across a third of the world from London to Mongolia. The jacket is really comfortable as well as looking really smart. It’s a great border crossing jacket. The combination of zipped external pockets and 2 internal pockets made hiding our money and keeping our important documents safe an absolute cinch. I can vouch for its wind resistance and warmth from when we went to check out the border of Tajikistan and China at the Kulma Pass – 4,362m. Even though it was blowing and pretty chilly I felt comfortable in it. The border guards not so much, they weren’t having a bar of it and in no uncertain terms made it clear we couldn’t just be noseying around their border, regardless of how smart the Raptor jacket looks.
Back in NZ I’ve used it cycling and walking around in the hills and it’s been great. Breathable, warm and windproof. It’s also right at home in the office environment.
