Helium II Women’s
Constructed from specialised High Loft fleece, the Helium jacket is 20% warmer and 40% more compressible than a standard Polartec®200 Fleece. The ‘soft fur’ construction has a special double anchor so the body hugging fibres will not pill and will not shed. Sides, cuffs and front panel lining use Technopile® microfleece. This is an functional warmth layer ideal for travel and outdoor adventures where warmth, weight and storage are critical.

Warm machine wash using mild detergent. Make sure detergent fully dissolved in the water before adding clothes.Line dry inside out. Do not use bleach or fabric softeners. Do not dry clean or iron. May be tumble dried, cool setting only, for a very short time. For best results wash separately as fleece will pick up lint from materials that shed such as your lovely fluffy towels. If this does happen, lint can be removed using the sticky side of packing tape or a lint roller. Fabric softeners reduce the moisture transfer and breathability properties of the fleece by coating the fibres with a lubricant.
Our Story
Earth Sea Sky was formed in December 1990 when David teamed up with clothing designer, Sydney Mulligan. Between them they had more than 25 years experience in New Zealand’s outdoor clothing industry. This experience in design, production and sales was used to fill a growing need in the market for outdoor clothing that combined comfort, style and performance. David and Sydney introduced designs and colours that linked function and performance with great fit, attention to detail and fashion. Their first range of 20 garments included tramping jackets, oilskins, waterproof ski wear, 60/40 anorak windshells and Polartec thermal fleeces.
Since then, most of New Zealand’s outdoor clothing brands have taken their production offshore. Earth Sea Sky is committed to remaining New Zealand made. The Ellis family believes this is vital in maintaining the brand’s consistent quality and uniqueness.

Extremely happy with my Helium 2 fleece. Super cosy and warm, fits well with nice long sleeves, flattering cut and color ( the rainforest green). Would love to see in some other jewel like colors that would show up in the bush.

Very cosy jacket that I have added to my ESS collection. I have another fleece from ESS that lasted a really long time. I purchased the green one and the colour does not disappoint. The pockets have zippers which means I can be quite active and not lose anything. The only thing I will say is that lining of the pockets could be made of something a little warmer rather than the cold mesh that is currently there.

Wonderful garment. I work on a gravel beach from midwinter, and it has been perfect. Pockets are placed perfectly and have zips. Phone fits in one, field book in the other, while carkeys are safe in the inner pocket. The little bit of windflow stops overheating with exercise. I have worn it every day so far. (for a couple of months). It washes beautifully. And though I took it tramping for a week in winter, with the intention of wearing it in the huts, I wore it every day while walking too. Mine is the green one and I love the colour. It is a great garment and I’m sure you would find it an investment as I do.

This jacket has been an extraordinary investment. I do field work on the beach from mid winter and the garment has been fantastic and I have worn it every day. It is very cosy, but not quite windproof, so this has enabled me to walk briskly and move in it without overheating. The pockets are perfectly placed and sized for access to my phone on one side, and field book and pen on the other. I tuck my carkeys away in the inner pocket.
We spent 6 days on the W Coast side of the Copland in August. I took my jacket along, with the plan just to wear it in the hut. However I wore it for almost all my walking and loved it. Great buy.

This fantastic jacket would have to the favourite amongst my stable of ESS garments.
It has a great weight to warmth ratio, and although it isn’t particularly windproof, under a light weight shell, it is incredibly cozy. It has an extra layer of fleece across the front, which adds to this. Well positioned pockets and a really snug collar make it extremely comfortable to wear…and I wear it a lot, both on the mountain and as a casual jacket, because it is smart and attractive. What’s more, the fabric hasn’t pilled or worn with washing as some of my other ‘long fibre’ fleece jackets have. It looks as good now as it did when new, and this after a lot of wear, and a lot of cycles thought the washing machine. And I love the colour- a really rich ruby red. Its really worthwhile investing in one of these jackets!
